Al Shahaniyah, about 40km drive west from Doha, is the Oryx farm where you can admire the largest number of oryx in natural surroundings. Here you can enjoy seeing an Arabian Oryx up close. Once threathned by extinction, these rare and elegant antelopes now live and breed as protected herds under the direct care and protection of the Qatari government. The Oryx is Qatar's national animal and is found nowhere else in the world in such large numbers. A visit to the Camel Race Track will provide you with a unique opportunity to ride a camel and be invited to partake the traditional Arabian tea and coffee. There you can meet experts who will tell you all about camel training and racing. Racing season begins in October and runs upto May, with several racing events held in March and April.
